Have you ever undergone a background check? Organizations in all industries may use background checks to verify candidates’ qualifications and identities. An employee at any level, whether entry-level or senior level, may be subject to a background check.
This is the story of a person haunted by their past. Despite a successful interview, their relief was short-lived when the company announced a background check as a mere formality. Fear and anxiety replaced the excitement of a great interview knowing all too well what could be uncovered: a past conviction, a bankruptcy, a poor credit score, and, if the investigation went deep enough, the fact that they had been terminated from two jobs. Receiving Christ a few years earlier, they believed their spirit had been transformed through salvation, but they couldn’t shake the fear that their past would continue to shadow their present.
2 Cor 5:17 tells us that if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature, old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.
Before salvation, a lost person has a dead spirit (Eph 2:1-5). It doesn’t matter if that person was wealthy, or influential in their flesh; their spirit was dead and separated from God. Salvation provides the total change that takes place in the spirit. The person who receives Christ is totally new (John 3:3).
While your body and soul did not instantly change when you accepted Christ, your spirit is now new and the same as Christ. Now you can release what you have in your spirit (Gal 5:22), into your soul and body.
It is essential to remember that God’s grace covers our past and allows us to experience transformation and redemption. We should not let our past hold us back or discourage us from walking in the newness that Christ offers.
Psalm 103:12
“As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.”
When God forgives us, He separates our sins from us completely. This verse is a beautiful reminder of God’s incredible grace and mercy.
We must believe and accept God’s forgiveness, not allowing guilt or shame to keep us tied to our past actions. We can find freedom in knowing that God’s forgiveness is complete and that He sees us as righteous through Jesus Christ.
Isaiah 43:18-19
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
This verse reminds us to let go of the past and focus on the new things that God is doing in our lives.
