With all the negative news and the constant media coverage of negativity, it is important to keep our bodies and minds healthy and free from this world’s focus. We have the cure – Jesus!
It takes great care to take care of the body God gave us, including our minds. God tells us what we should think on day and night but do we? Or, do we let the cares of the world, negative comments, stress, people’s opinions overrule His Word?
Philippians 4:8: “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.”
The Word detoxes or rids the toxins from our mind. When we trust in the Lord with all of our heart and do not try to figure everything out in our own understanding, acknowledging God, He will make our paths and thoughts clear. We must turn away from toxins, guarding our heart and mind from anything that will try to choke out God’s Word. The Word is healing to our flesh and refreshment to our bones. It is the sustenance we need to live the Christian life fully.
Proverbs 3:5–8: Instructs us to:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.”
When a circumstance arises, what is the first thing that comes to mind? What is in our heart will surface first. Is our first thought to panic, get into fear, anger, run to the store and stock pile? Our heart can give birth to something gradually and we may not even know it is taking root until the first leaves or fruit are sprouting. Sin disguises itself: pride can be seen as conviction, self-sufficiency as industriousness, fear as attentiveness, skepticism as discernment, timidity as humility. We must ask God to teach us, to unite our hearts to reverence His name.
“Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name” (Psalm 86:11)
Neuroscientist Dr. Caroline Leaf says that 75 – 95 percent of the illnesses that plague us today are a direct result of our thought life. What we think about affects us physically and emotionally. It’s an epidemic of toxic emotions and is literally making us sick. Our experiences and environment shape our thinking and often that way of thinking is false. False thinking is strongholds not based on truth but on lies. We are very susceptible to strongholds if we don’t know who we are in Christ.
The good news is our Father wants to teach us. He wants us to have the mind of Christ. Ask God to strengthen your confidence in who you are in Him. You are a child of the most high God, a warrior, strong and equipped to face anything. You are victorious!
