Did you know that your Spirit is bright and rejoicing all the time? 1 Peter 1:8.
There is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance in your Spirit ALL the time – Gal 5:22-23. This is great news!
What if we are not feeling inexpressible joy all the time? Emotions and feelings can take a forefront in our lives. We are inundated with sensory overload daily that can be anything but joyful.
Knowing what we have and who we are in the Spirit is foundational to making the choices that contradict the worlds way of thinking. The Spirit part of us must be more real than the emotional part of us. The true us is what God’s Word says about us. We are new creatures in Christ – 2 Cor 5:17.
What we believe, magnify and speak will become reality in our lives. Being more assured of the truth of who we are in Christ will combat anything worldly.
The Lord told us to rejoice in the Lord always (Phil. 4:4). We can choose to go against the pressures of our environment. In John 16:33, Jesus told His disciples,
“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 is a pillar scripture for our family. Challenges will happen, but we can be at peace AND cheerful because God already (past) overcame the world.
In recent travels, I noticed blank and unhappy faces. People were frustrated, sad, hopeless. I listened for 3 days in airports, hotels, conference rooms, streets, restaurants, and the conversations were very much the same – discouraging with little hope for the future.
Jesus bore our sorrows and carried our griefs. Read that again. Jesus bore our sorrows and carried our griefs, so why would we do the same?
As Believers, we have complete control over our heart and circumstances – Deuteronomy 30:19, God speaks through Moses, “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore, choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.”
Proverbs 23:7 says that as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.
Whatever you are facing, you have two choices – You can choose to be encouraged or discouraged. Remember, your Spirit never gets depressed, it never gets discouraged, it never gets fearful so anything to the contrary is a choice.
You are blessed (Eph. 1:3). You’ve got the joy of the Lord inside of you. You can choose to be happy if you want to be happy. You can choose to be blessed. You can choose to be excited about the Lord if you want to be.
Whatever happens externally – We can choose to be just like our Spirits – Merry & Bright.
