Have you ever heard the saying “your internal alarm clock is ticking?” Your circadian rhythm (also known as your sleep/wake cycle or body clock) is a natural, internal system that’s designed to regulate feelings of sleepiness and wakefulness over a 24-hour period. This complex timekeeper is controlled by an area of the brain that responds to light, which is why humans are most alert while the sun is shining and are ready to sleep when it’s dark outside.
Each one of us has what I call a spiritual alarm clock. This is a built in warning system from the Holy Spirit to guide us and keep us from harm. This could be as simple as an unction directing us not to speak that thought that just popped into our head during a conversation, or a knowing that you should avoid a certain route, or doing something that just does not bring peace.
Each of us is in a specific walk with God. We are not all in the same place. You might be further along in some area than someone else. Through Holy Spirit guiding and leading, it will be clear what we should be doing and what “sets off the alarm”.
If we spend too much time ignoring the alarms or warnings, we can become desensitized to the Holy Spirit. Over time, this can lead to a hard heart and we become luke warm or cold to God.
The more we are in tune to our spiritual alarm clocks the more we walk on the upright path that God is leading us to. Isn’t it comforting to think we can get to our destination (calling) without having to recalculate.
I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
God has called and equipped you with a specific task and purpose, so walk it out in full faith, believing that He will show you the next step along the way.
